A tip of the great champion, it can not refuse?

Of course there are the slow-ball approach dear to the American champion, and already discussed in broad in Power Poker (same publisher).

But the overall objective is to review a range of more varied, so that the player has the most complete arsenal.

In most cases no real bond between them, sometimes recurring themes in chapters form a sort of potpourri. Failing to always be structured reading avoids be daunting.
This overview also addresses more things. basic concepts to some reflections further reviewed in the light of a pro.
Everything is in effect, husked, until some advanced tactics such as “follow with nothing in hand.” Negreanu and also sometimes not hesitate to go against the grain of what can sometimes be heard, while recalling the good advice to be wary of what we see on television.
There are also some examples of moves or involved with the case studies, with the clarifications and reflections of the dashing Daniel too rare but still valuable.

Once finished reading, if indeed all will be assimilated, it will give a good general background, which require however to be careful. … And put into practice!

Duhamel Interview http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1873 http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1873#comments Wed, 23 Feb 2011 11:25:04 +0000 admin http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1873 It’s been 15 days since Jonathan Duhamel was crowned World Champion of Poker. And the French-Canadian of 23 years has not touched a single card or a single chip since. Meet the new Supreme medalist WSOP.

“I have not played a single hand of poker for” Duhamel Jonathan told us from his home just outside of Montreal, Quebec.

“I did a lot of interviews and stuff like that. I would have liked to play a bit but so far I have not time for that. Anyway I hope to be able to replay a few very soon. ”

Sponsored by PokerStars , Duhamel will at least have felt the touch table … virtually, with the Canadian Championship of Online Poker debut last weekend.
And we should also find the trip to the Bahamas in January 2011 for the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and for a return to Vegas next month to the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic.

By then, he has done it just two weeks ago continues to speak naturally.
“It’s so enormous, so mad, and it really happened. Of course it took me a few days to complete. And even though now I think I did, and I feel like the happiest man on earth, I still wonder if it really happened. ”

“I knew it would be huge, but not at this point”

Back home in Boucherville, Quebec a few days after becoming the first Canadian Champion WSOP Main Event, Jonathan has had to deal with all the excitement of the media. But the new champion of the World Series will still also had the chance to spend time with close friends and family.

“It was pretty cool to come home, but the feeling is somewhat different with everyone recognizes you in the street and things like that. I knew it would be huge, but not at this point. Everything is so crazy here. It’s pretty crazy. But it amuses me much good to do all these interviews and others. ”

The history of $ 8.9 million for his victory is naturally most often at center stage, but the focus is more often drawn to the fact that Duhamel has left his studies in finance from the University of Montreal to continue his career as a poker player. The opportunity for the young champion to launch a big warning to young people: not the path he took is not for everyone.

“I am a little surprised that I speak so often about it, but at the same time I can do anything. If the media wants me to talk about, okay. The only thing I can do is to give the best advice I can. And the honest answer is that it is very difficult. Poker is not for everyone. This is simply not done for some people. So I certainly will not say to young people leave school to go play poker. It is not for everyone. ”

As for earnings, excluding the $ 100 000 donation to the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation for which he had committed, he has not had time to touch it.
“No I do not have anything yet. Probably at Christmas, I’ll do something, like taking a family vacation or otherwise. ”
Some may indeed be spoiled in a little over a month …

And this fifth round of the European Poker Tour Season 7 will set new records, with 758 participants from 53 countries, is the largest poker tournament ever held on Spanish soil (for a prize pool of $ 3.790 million).

That same year a special annex to the Hotel Arts operated by the Casino de Barcelona, who takes over from the usual place of debate, the Gran Casino.

Of the sixty French flights (second most represented country behind and in front of the 121 local Italian and German (very little), it will be found only 6 paid on arrival, with a 9th place as a top finisher Candido Goncalves.

Things had begun quite conveniently, since it Loοc Sa ended Day 1A as chip leader, followed shortly by Jan Boubli (winner in the same places in 2005 on behalf of Season 2.

Of the 400 players at the start of Day 2, about half the clan had surrendered tricolor, is still another 29 of the adventure, including Jean Paul Pasqualini, ElkY, Eric Haik, Marion Nedellec Edouard Mignot Stιphane Albertini Jacques Zaicik, or Kerignard Yoran.
Internationally, the ranks of stars could still count on Bill Gazes, Surinder Sunar, Melanie Weisner, Carlos Mortensen, Alex Kravchenko, Davidi Kitai, Leo Margets, Noah Boeken, Liv Boeree, Juha Helppi and Marcel Luske.

Paid 9th place in EPT Elky

112 players advanced to Day 3, led by the American Bryn Kenney, 28th Main Event WSOP this summer and 29th of WSOP Europe.
Only 6 French still alive at this stage (Gilles Michaud, Jan Boubli, Stephane Albertini, Sebastien Bovyn, ElkY, and Candido Goncalves), only the latter would be part of the 24 remaining.
But the final table was finally escape since our last representative had to bow to his bubble, in 9th place.

It is ultimately the Swedish Kent Lundmark who wins the title, beating the local Jesus Cortes Lizano heads-up. At 22 too, it still manages is the best result ever by a Spaniard in EFA .

Lundmark is not unknown since this is his third place paid on this tour, especially after an already beautiful 29th place at the PCA in January.

“It’s an incredible feeling. This is one of the biggest tournaments you can win at poker. It went well for me throughout the tournament. I was very lucky in the heads-up. I continued to have good cards. I have always felt in control. ”

Kent started playing poker four years ago, and is also “famous” to play in a football team playing in the fourth division in his country.

If he managed to find a place, so there is every likelihood that this 6th EFA Swedish champion in history is found on Monday in the stands of Camp Nou to watch the clash between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
In fact for that matter, a small prognosis?

Interview: Francois Montmirel http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1865 http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1865#comments Wed, 23 Feb 2011 11:20:23 +0000 admin http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1865 To mark the release of Poker Quiz Techno, co-produced by Francis Montmirel PokerListings and we left the floor to the co-founder of the French School of Poker to introduce this new poker book collection Fantaisium.

Each book has a story. Can you tell us what is the genesis of Poker Quiz Techno?

In the early days of the beginning, I had the idea to do a quiz, a series of short problems covering most issues of no-limit hold’em in a book intended for medium level players. I’m used to this approach. For over two years I produced two big issues a week to the French School of Poker, the program titled “Hold’em Master Class.” I also published in Poker Magazine analyzes the hands of international tournaments, something that I was also in the course I gave in Paris from 2006 to 2009.

In terms of poker quiz there is a wonderful book entitled Poker Harrington 3 (Harrington on Hold’em in its original Ed). He has 50 problems, most of which are based on hits real tournaments featuring champions. This book is very useful but it is also very heavy. As usual Dan Harrington goes to the bottom of things in this book, reviewing all hypotheses, including the least likely. It is a very good book and study background. I wanted to do a book with only the essential arguments, allowing the reader to propose issues not 50, but three times as much.

I started collecting the different themes and write the first problems. Then I remembered that a problem was proposed Pokerlistings.com every day, to whom I addressed before we discuss an agreement and passions.

But I wanted to go further. My idea was not only to align 150 problems. It should also add to the pleasure of the reader utility. I wanted him to play better after answering questions.

So I created a distribution grid of possible errors in the different themes: wrong position, rating, reading, etc.. Each time the player makes a mistake, he defers to the table at the end of the book. When he responded to the 150 problems, the final picture shows him areas where he committed more errors. This principle is also at Harrington, but less successful. Apart from 150 problems and 252 errors possible, the amount of information is sufficient to determine the permanence of the player in the game, and point out its shortcomings recurring. This will allow them to concentrate its efforts to correct them.

This book is there a book about poker, or is there more? For what (s) reason (s)?

It’s an interactive book that will “read” it. It applies only if the player participates. There is very little interest to read a problem and its solution the next track. You really have to answer questions if we want progress.

In this, it is not a faculty handbook, it is even quite the opposite. It is a living book as there are none that I know about poker.

Who Can Use it?

This Volume 1 is for intermediate players, that is to say people who know the game but still stumble on some specific situations. If the reader “feel” what the right answer but can not explain why it is in this category.

This book is not intended for complete beginners. Please take a little practice, even fragmentary. I also added a short glossary at the beginning of the book to avoid “failure” of reading.

Why a pocket size (already used for Poker Trash)?

“My idea was not only to align 150 problems, but also add to the pleasure of the reader of the utility.”
It’s not quite a pocket-sized because it is a 17 x 17 cm. The pocket size is about 11 x 17 cm. I use the square format for my collection “Out Collection”, where I rank the books that are not part of Poker Expert.

And then a book that includes 150 consecutive issues must be taken everywhere, it must have a small footprint, and this format is ideal.

The system of quizzes and self-assessment is it more effective to learn your opinion?

It’s effective because I have already implemented before, through my students in group classes. The important thing is to do the problem, but most important is to understand why they said wrong. This debriefing is beneficial and really progress.

Doing so also enables one not to cheat if the player commits a foul beginner, nobody will laugh at him. Only he knows, he is not tempted to lie to himself and he does not boast. But the lesson has been brought anyway.

Have you enjoyed yourself to the test?

Yes, I did it after completion. I even made a few mistakes! No wonder, some situations are really tricky, I admit. This is also why they are in the book.

Can you already tell us a little more about Volume 2 is already planned?

It is expected, but I await the finalization of the agreement. It will focus on issues more statements, for players called “experienced”. It complements the more technical concepts such as working on his own image, and give greater importance to issues of profile opponent.

To be continued next week, the second part of the interview: The poker books

Francis Montmirel – Part 2 http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1862 http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1862#comments Wed, 23 Feb 2011 11:12:47 +0000 admin http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1862 Second part of interview of Francis Montmirel to celebrate the release of Techno Poker Quiz co-produced by PokerListings. Today: poker books.

How much time (and how many people) they are on average necessary to edit a book?

It is very variable. The book that asked me the most work is Poker Cadillac. I took a year to write, but I did it from morning to evening. I worked with a designer and a reviewer.

When it comes to a foreign book, for example Poker Super System Doyle Brunson added the time and expense required for translation. A translator is about 6 months to translate a manual medium.

But make no mistake. The textbook publishing poker, as indeed throughout the paper edition, remains a craft. Everything is done by hand so to speak, line by line, the only part of industrial production is through the rotating ultra-sophisticated printers.

At the all-digital and where more and more people prefer to read on the Internet, sometimes even from their iPhones, books (including poker) they still have their place?

My publisher Fantaisium prepares for digital books. We offer our entire catalog in 2011 for direct download. We’ll see if paper versions will disappear. For my part, I do not think so. Because the book is an object and the relationship with this object is sensual: it has an odor, which installs a patina over time, a touch, a specific weight … And a book works even if the network is down, whether electric or internet!

I always believed in the complementarity of the two ways of delivering a book. There will always be the printed book, I think.

We know there is often more difficult than you think to put into practice what they read in books. What general advice would you give to the readers of your books?

Techno Poker Quiz
What you say is very true. I do not think there is one practical book in the world on any subject whatsoever, that the reader can apply to 100% or even 80%. 50% seems to me to be a big, big up.
Why? Because we all have different perceptions of the subject. If you were to rewrite Poker Cadillac, you would put other things before me. And this is normal, because we have a different background, which tells us what each are key ingredients. And yet they are not the same for you and me.

This is not a poker book that will teach you to become champion. The best poker book of the world will never play for you. When you are alone at the final table of a tournament, this is not the book that sends the carpet, it’s you and nobody else, with your feeling, your talent. I am not a merchant of talent, God forbid!

However, everyone can find a particular book in an element that suddenly illuminates a piece of his game, which shows a reality in a new light. A book also provides benchmarks, simplifies practice. For example, in Poker Duel , I devote a chapter to the structuring of the match. Many readers have told me how much it had been useful and had advanced their game

Francis Montmirel – Part 3 http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1860 http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1860#comments Wed, 23 Feb 2011 11:11:33 +0000 admin http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1860 Many people do not know your name and through your books. Who is Francis Montmirel?

I was born in 1963, and soon the college I played poker. Student, I published my first book on the subject published by Hatier in 1984 … an editor specializing in textbooks! Since then I’ve never stopped playing, first in private parties and in international tournaments since 1992. I continued to write and publish as well.

I had a blackjack bracket in 1991, where I practiced pro casino to casino. Then in May 2003 I discovered online poker, and the world changed for me. Poker has become a market in a few months. So I did what I could do since forever, to know how to write, translate, publish books.

Why do not we see more on the live tournament circuit?

For lack of time! I am not a professional player but semi-pro. I do not perceive that my winnings in the game but also my work as an editor-author-teacher-translator / consultant. The time is not infinitely expandable, I must make choices. I play about thirty tournaments a year, of average importance, with buy-ins from 200 to 1000 euros.

Do you play online?

Yes, but less than before because I have less time to devote to the game I’m focusing mostly Sit & Go and a few multi-table tournaments.

How do you respond to some of your critics that you can sometimes read on some forums?

That we can not please everyone! As I’m in the game since 1984, my name comes up quite often, but I can not help it if I did not get on the bandwagon as others! In fact, if you compare the posts on the forums unfavorable and favorable posts, you’ll see that the latter are more numerous than the former. I nevertheless always listen to criticism when it is constructive. It’s part of what makes progress in life.
The future

Techno Poker Quiz
What are the next books to be published (or planned) in the collection Fantaisium / Poker Expert?

The 2011 program is almost complete. The year will start with a very highly anticipated book by Dan Harrington spent short-handed poker. Then a book on the mind and the qualities needed to win, by Alan Schoonmaker, the author of Overcoming his worst enemy. Then Techno Poker Quiz 2, and finally Poker No-Stress, a book that explains how you can fight against all forms of stress related to poker, through yoga, breathing, NLP, self-hypnosis etc..

Do you have any other projects?

Yes, like everyone else! But these are only projects, so I’ll leave it at that.

the appeal of London? http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1858 http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1858#comments Wed, 23 Feb 2011 11:11:03 +0000 admin http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1858 It’s no secret that outside of bad beats, the tax is the greatest enemy of the pro poker player.

As recently as last month, is also the recent winner of the 2010 WSOP Main Event Jonathan Duhamel who was to undergo the terrible warning shot taxes.

Between the IRS who wins $ 2.67 million (under a 30% tax on lottery winnings), and the Canadian 48% (taking into account what has already been offered to Uncle Sam), they are on arrival “more than” $ 4.6 million that would keep Quebec in 22 years on the pockets of 8.9 his first prize.

Unless some convoluted solution that would be for him to set up a company to reduce the Canadian tax rate would remain for the young champion to follow the path chosen by one of its predecessors, the winner of the 2008 Main Event Peter Eastgate .
Danish indeed had soon decided to slip away … in London, where gains on the games are not taxed, the main reason why one finds numerous known and lesser known pros, especially French.

Isildur at Pokerstars, and New London?

Finished sunbathing on its terrace, towards the London fog?
Isildur and rumor? Two words definitely still very connected. If Viktor Blom has so far confirmed that half-words to it, the news is still very young Swedish scrutinized.

Latest news in date, the resident of Gothenburg had sold his penthouse located on the main street of the city for more than 1 million euro would no longer be part of the list of Swedish residents, and would go to London.
Always being one of the biggest online players in the parts of high-stakes alongside Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan and Gus Hansen currently looking for more action (especially live) while avoiding taxes, leaving only few possible destinations. And even though the Swedish tax authorities do not count for much drop the case once the expatriate has formalized its identity.

But the other assumption made by some blogs, the possible signing of Blom with a poker room which would have forced the player to move under the contract, has just been confirmed: Isildur has officially signed in Pokerstars !
“I chose to join Pokerstars because it is the largest site, and it will be an exciting challenge, starting with being part of a team alongside players such as Daniel Negreanu, Dario Minieri and Johnny Lodden. (…) My goals now are to further my playing live during some upcoming events, to continue to focus on me the heads-up No-Limit Hold’em, but also to try to develop my game in Pot-Limit Omaha “Has he said.

London has in any case no doubt many other attractions for the young prodigy. Besides having been the scene of his first results on the live circuit (and not least with a 16th place in the Main Event of the WSOP Europe in September), the English capital is also included in regular games.
What continue to maintain the buzz Isildur1, but this time with real poker tables …

Esfandiari won the WPT Five-Diamond http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1856 http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1856#comments Wed, 23 Feb 2011 11:10:12 +0000 admin http://rcdbusinessgroup.rankpage10.com/?p=1856 Antonio Esfandiari Wins the WPT second title of his career by winning the WPT Doyle Brunson Five-Diamond Classic. The Franco-American Vanessa Rousso finished third.

Last appointment of the World Poker Tour this year, the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic drew 438 players (against 329 last year) for a prize pool of $ 4.2 million, one-side of the most prestigious casino in Vegas, the Bellagio.

With a buy-in increased from $ 15,000 to $ 10,000, the stars are sometimes found them more diluted in the mass tables. But most of the big names had not missed the trip, accompanied by several Nine November 2010 (Michael Mizrachi, Joseph Cheong, Soi Nguyen, John Racener top).

If ElkY and Olivier Busquet French side would not pass the course on Day 2, the start of the tournament has had to announce soon the color, with Antonio Esfandiari chip leader from the second day (keep it top of the table until Day 5) and our other French (sorry, Franco-American) Vanessa Rousso that it will either never left the top of the table.

Vanessa Rousso flies the tricolor

Vanessa Rousso not be disappointed with a superb podium success.
If the Day 3 was synonymous with Las Vegas Marathon with a bit delayed the resumption of discussions, it was also means back in the money, with a pricing structure a bit curious and disappointed with several players. Nearly 25% of the field has indeed found winning (100 for 428 entrants), thereby establishing the first cashed in some $ 13,000, barely 30% Surcharge on the entrance fee.

The tension this time was really up to Day 5, with Vanessa Rousso eventually dropping Antonio Esfandiari from his throne, on a call with big pair of 10s on a flop of 8-8-4 8-7, it would even qualify the “biggest call of his life.”
The member of Team PokerStars Pro France would take the opportunity to take the lead until the final table.

Esfandiari: 6 years after

Rousso eventually lost the chip lead for the benefit of Andrew Robl on Day 6. Fell in the critical zone, the player ended up being the same again and again regain the lead before qu’Esfandiari not played it.
After two seventh places (2006 in these same places and 2009) and 5th in the Ladies Night 2006, “Lady Maverick” record is still his best result in WPT .

Between Andrew Robl and Antonio Esfandiari, neck and neck, the fight will almost remained tight throughout.
But the hand 181 of the final table will be good for him. KJ cons QT, a king on the flop to fold the case, and the “Wizard” to add a second title at the World Poker Tour to his name (after his first in 2004), the day of her 32 years!
Esfandiari also won his seat for the WPT World Championship at $ 25,500 at the end of the season.

“I can not tell you how it’s nice to be back. It’s crazy. (…) We do not feel good not to pass the final table (WPT Ed) in 7 years, but managing to do was come after roller coaster ride I’ve had, it really good. (…) »
